Asian market indices are exhibiting a mixed trend in early deals on Tuesday after Wall Street's gains as investors waited for a new US tariff hike in a trade battle with China. Meanwhile, the Japanese market is advancing, tracking the mostly positive cues overnight from Wall Street and a weaker yen. Among the other Asian markets, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan are lower. Bucking the trend, Nikkei and Shanghai are higher. The markets in Malaysia and Indonesia are closed in observance of Awal Muharram.
Straits Times declined 4.65 points or 0.15% to 3,116.27, KOSPI Index dropped 2.21 points or 0.10% to 2,286.45, Hang Seng dipped 6.50 points or 0.02% to 26,606.92, and Taiwan Weighted down by 7.74 points or 0.07% to 10,718.06.
On the flip side, Nikkei 225 added 256.31 points or 1.13% to 22,629.40, and Shanghai Composite up by 8.06 points or 0.30% to 2,677.54.
