Bond yields trade lower on Monday

17 Sep 2018 Evaluate

Bond yields traded lower on Monday, as the Reserve Bank of India announced an open market purchase of bonds for this week.

In the global market, US Treasury yields retreated on Friday on reports President Donald Trump has instructed aides to proceed with tariffs on about $200 billion more Chinese goods, despite Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's attempts to restart trade talks with China. Furthermore, global oil prices eased in early Asian trading on concerns that the United States is poised to impose additional tariffs on China, outweighing supply fears from upcoming sanctions on Iran.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 6 basis points lower at 8.12% from its previous close of 8.18% on Friday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 1 basis point higher at 8.23% from its previous close of 8.22% on Friday.
