Asian markets trade mostly in green on Thursday

20 Sep 2018 Evaluate

Most of the Asian markets are trading in green on Thursday, following the mostly positive cues overnight from Wall Street as investors set aside concerns over a full-blown global trade war between US and China. Though, China stocks fell as investors’ sentiments remained fragile following the latest volley of tariffs in the Sino-US trade war. Among the other Asian markets, Singapore, Nikkei, South Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia are higher. Bucking the trend, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are lower.

Nikkei 225 added 65.17 points or 0.27% to 23,737.69, Straits Times gained 2.86 points or 0.09% to 3,179.43, Jakarta Composite spurt 49.98 points or 0.84% to 5,923.58, KOSPI Index increased 20.81 points or 0.89% to 2,329.27, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI up by 5.03 points or 0.28% to 1,805.74.

On the flip side, Hang Seng declined 28.70 points or 0.10% to 27,378.67, Shanghai Composite dropped 3.32 points or 0.12% to 2,727.53, and Taiwan Weighted down by 39.50 points or 0.37% to 10,817.77
