NCP leaders seek President Pranab’s intervention on future with UPA-II

23 Jul 2012 Evaluate

As Pranab Mukherjee conquers the Raisina Hill, the major issue in front of him is to retain the UPA-II coalition intact, policy reforms likely to be next on his agenda. Ahead of the party meet, the NCP leaders decided to meet the newly elected President Pranab Mukherjee to seek his intervention on the party’s future in UPA-II.

The Nationalist Congress Party which threatened to move out of the alliance as its senior leader - Sharad Pawar was reportedly upset over rejecting the no. 2 position in the cabinet. Owing to this reason Agriculture Minister along with Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel had offered resignation.

Prime Minister and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi’s assurance to discuss and try to resolve the issues kept the UPA’s significant ally calm over the weekend. As per few media reports, the main reason for Pawar’s resignation is not about the pecking order in the cabinet, there are other issues too with the Congress party which coerced him to mull to leave the alliance.
