State-owned telecom firm MTNL, which operates in Delhi and Mumbai, added just 162 new customers during the June month of 2012. The subscriber base of MTNL stood at 5.32 million.
Besides, Bharti Airtel, GSM operators added 4.64 million new subscribers in June taking their total user base to 677.35 million while, Aditya Birla group firm Idea Cellular, with a market share of 17.30 percent, added 1.19 million new subscribers during the month. It now has subscriber base of 117.16 million.
MTNL was set up by the Government of India to upgrade the quality of telecom services, expand the telecom network, and introduce new services and to raise revenue for telecom development needs of India's key metros -- Delhi and Mumbai.
