Yet again the Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee is upset with the UPA-II government for increasing the prices of petrol by 70 paise. Indian Oil Marketing Companies have increased the prices of petrol by 70 paise/litre owing rising international crude oil prices. Banerjee has demanded rollback and also lashed out at government for increasing the prices without consulting its allies.

“The Trinammool Congress is extremely disappointed with the price rise of petrol. We don’t support this price rise of petrol. We protest this decision. We want an immediate rollback of the decision,” said West Bengal’s Chief Minister.

The tussle between the UPA-II government and TMC which started with the government selecting Pranab Mukherjee as its Presidential Candidate was cooled off recently when Banerjee openly declared support to Mukherjee.  However, it is not the first time that Banerjee has gone against the UPA-II government, wherein her party is a significant ally, for price hike. Earlier too Banerjee had opposed the petrol price hike and had alleged that government had increased the prices without discussing with its allies.
