The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has launched commodity derivatives segment on its platform on October 12, 2018. Initially, the NSE will focus on key non-agri commodities and then expand its offering for trading in agri commodities.
The stock exchange started trading with futures contracts in gold (1 kg), gold mini (100 gms) and silver contracts (30 kg). Moreover, NSE has applied to Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI) for new products in base metal and energy.
The contracts will be physically settled on expiry with Ahmedabad as the base centre. NSE is also planning to extend delivery centres to all major metros.
