The farmers of Odisha state who were affected by last year’s drought and floods would be entitled for compensation under the Rastriya Krishi Bima Yojana (RKBY). The total compensation to be paid to the farmers amounts to Rs 675.32 crore and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned Rs 277.72 crore toward’s state’s share in the RKBY.
This step taken by the state government will see 5.71 lakh farmers benefiting from the scheme. Besides, the state government had considered panchayat as a unit for the RKBY.
During the 2011 Kharif season, the farmers in all the 30 districts of the state were badly hit in twin floods and drought.
