Against the Government target which it had fixed for sowing of kharif crops in 150 lakh hectare of area in 2012 only 77 lakh hectare is been sown at present in Rajasthan. The sowing has been shrunk by almost half and this can be attributed to the fact due to insufficient rains as the state has experienced rainfall deficit of nearly 35%. By the end of plantation season that would last till around August 10 the sowing acreage is estimated to be around 100 lakh hectare going by the trend.
Rajasthan state has experienced a rainfall of 138.33 mm which is 34.11% deficient, according to official data. The five districts Jodhpur, Barmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Nagaur of the state are facing with scanty rainfall whereas the rainfall in the state as a whole is deficient.
The second round of rainfall would be active from July 22 to 29 as per the forecast by the Meteorological Department and they are expecting that this round of rainfall would improve the situation in the state.
