Graphite India resumes industrial operations in its Bangalore plant

Graphite India has resumed industrial operations in the company’s Bangalore plant pursuant to an appeal filed by the company before The Karnataka State Appellate Authority at Bangalore under Water & Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Acts, 1974 & 1981.

The Appellate Authority has passed an interim order granting stay of the impugned orders of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) refusing consents to operate and directing closure of industrial operations.

Earlier on July 09, 2012, the KSPCB had ordered closure of industrial operations in the Graphite India's plant in Bangalore till further orders, alleging non-compliance with the provisions of the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. The company had complied with the closure order.

Graphite India (GIL) is engaged in manufacturing of graphite electrodes. GIL set up its first facility at Durgapur in east India in 1967. Besides graphite electrodes, the company also manufactures anodes, other miscellaneous carbon and graphite products and calcined petroleum coke.
