India reported a rise of 10.4% at 370.3 MT in coal production during April-October 2018 as compared to last year same period’s 335.2 MT. Meanwhile Coal India (CIL) reported a rise of 10.1%.
Coal output in India climbed from 2013-14's 565.77 MT to 676.48 MT in 2017-18, marking an increase of about 110.71 MT, while during the period between 2009-10 and 2013-14, the country marked a rise 33.73 MT in coal production. As on November 12, CIL reported coal output of 326.63 MT with a growth rate of 9.6%.
In the current financial year, the country exports till October has increased by 8.3%, while CIL, rose by 7.4%. As per estimates in the ongoing fiscal, coal demand is about 991.35 MT, including imports. Out of this demand of 991.35 MT, the demand by the power sector is estimated at 760.66 MT and the non-power sector at 230.69 MT.
CIL accounts for over 80% of the domestic coal output, and had earlier said that it was optimistic about a production target of 652 MT for the fiscal year 2018-19.
