Asian markets trade mostly in red on Wednesday

21 Nov 2018 Evaluate

Most of the Asian market indices are trading in red on Wednesday following a plunge on Wall Street overnight as disappointing corporate earnings results, the weak crude oil prices and United States-China trade dispute added worries about global economic growth and dampened investor sentiment. Meanwhile, Japan’s Nikkei is lower after Wall Street’s tumble hit sentiments, while falling oil prices dragged down resource and trading-house shares. Among the other Asian markets, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia and Shanghai are in negative territory. Bucking the trend, Singapore is higher.

Nikkei 225 declined 73.76 points or 0.34% to 21,509.36, Hang Seng dropped 41.39 points or 0.16% to 25,798.95, Shanghai Composite dipped 3.39 points or 0.13% to 2,642.46, Taiwan Weighted decreased 19.76 points or 0.20% to 9,724.23, Jakarta Composite contracted 54.39 points or 0.91% to 5,950.91, KOSPI Shares slipped 0.44% to 9.06 points to 2,073.52, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI down by 15.80 points or 0.92% to 1,694.91.

On the flip side, Straits Times up by 12.61 points or 0.41% to 3,039.60.
