Sowing of different crop has picked up pace and rice has been sown in 233.68 lakh hectare so far, as per the preliminary data received from the Ministry of Agriculture, as compared to 191.06 lakh hectare a week back. It is however, lower compared to the normal area that is been sown for this time of the year, which stands at around 240.89 lakh hectare.
Besides, sugarcane has been planted in 52.88 lakh hectare, which is more than the normal area covered for this time of the year which stands at around 46.71 lakhs hectare while cotton has been planted in 100.14 lakh hectare as compared to 97.24 lakh hectare as on last week.
Similarly, coarse cereals and oilseeds have been planted in 135.75 lakh hectare and 145.17 lakh hectare respectively, while jute and mesta has been planted in 8.40 lakh hectare. Separately, pulses have been sown in 72.79 lakh hectare.
