Asian equity benchmarks are trading in red in the early deals on Friday amid growing concerns over the trade dispute between the US and China. Besides, weak cues from Wall Street amid worries about global economic growth after the European Commission lowered its growth forecasts for eurozone also fuelled the downtrend. Japan’s Nikkei dropped as renewed US-China trade fears curbed risk appetite. The markets in Taiwan and China remain closed for the Lunar New Year holidays.
Nikkei 225 declined 404.71 points or 1.95% to 20,346.57, Hang Seng dropped 135.98 points or 0.49% to 27,854.23, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI slipped 8.79 points or 0.52% to 1,684.60, Straits Times decreased 4.37 points or 0.14% to 3,196.27, Jakarta Composite dipped 27.26 points or 0.42% to 6,509.20, and KOSPI Shares down by 25.33 points or 1.15% to 2,178.09.
