Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) has approached the Department of Telecom (DoT) seeking claims of about Rs 500 crore. The company sought claims under multiple heads which includes rendering of communications services and reimbursement of employees-related payments made.
The claims by the company pertain to telecom facilities provided to the DoT, compensation for retirement benefits given to employees who were originally from the DoT (along with interest), and buildings of the state-owned corporation leased to Telecom Department, amongst others.
MTNL was set up by the Government of India to upgrade the quality of telecom services, expand the telecom network, and introduce new services and to raise revenue for telecom development needs of India's key metros -- Delhi and Mumbai.
