Most of the Asian equity benchmarks are trading in green in the early deals on Tuesday as investors hoped the next round of trade talks between the US and China this week would help to resolve a dispute that's dented global growth and some corporate earnings. Japan’s Nikkei surged as a weaker yen boosted demand for shares of exporters such as automakers and machinery makers. Among the other Asian markets, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Shanghai, and South Korea are higher. Bucking the trend, Indonesia and Malaysia are lower.
Nikkei 225 rose 522.75 points or 2.57% to 20,855.92, Hang Seng added 44.30 points or 0.16% to 28,188.14, Straits Times gained 0.17 points or 0.01% to 3,206.44, Taiwan Weighted spurt 83.45 points or 0.83% to 10,087.70, Shanghai Composite increased 19.23 points or 0.72% to 2,673.13, and KOSPI Shares up by 11.74 points or 0.54% to 2,192.50.
On the flip side, Jakarta Composite dropped 66.19 points or 1.02% to 6,428.81, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI down by 2.82 points or 0.17% to 1,685.74.
