Bond yields trade higher on Thursday

14 Feb 2019 Evaluate

Bond yields edged higher on Thursday, as traders remain cautious with a report that volatile crude oil prices, a strong dollar and rising US bond yields has resulted in foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turning big sellers in the Indian market.

In the global market, US benchmark Treasury debt yields rose to one-week highs on Wednesday and the yield curve flattened after data showed that core consumer prices rose in January, easing concerns about a drop in inflation. Furthermore, Oil prices rose, buoyed by hopes that potential progress in the latest Sino-US tariff talks would improve the global economic outlook.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 5 basis points higher at 7.52% from its previous close of 7.47% on Wednesday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 11 basis points higher at 7.23% from its previous close of 7.12% on Wednesday.
