Bond yields trade flat on Thursday

21 Feb 2019 Evaluate

Bond yields traded flat on Thursday, as investors remained cautious with commerce and industry ministry’s data showing that foreign direct investment (FDI) into India contracted by 7% to $33.49 billion during April-December in the current fiscal.

In the global market, US Treasury yields on Wednesday ticked up modestly after the publication of minutes from the Federal Reserve's January policy meeting showed committee members were undecided on whether to hike interest rates again this year. Furthermore, Oil prices hovered close to 2019 highs, bolstered by OPEC-led supply cuts and US sanctions on Venezuela and Iran, but were prevented from rising further by slowing growth in the global economy.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading flat at its previous close of 7.55% on Wednesday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 2 basis points lower at 7.16% from its previous close of 7.18% on Wednesday.
