Parliament adjourns till tomorrow: A tribute to Deshmukh

As a tribute to Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who passed away after a prolonged illness, on Tuesday, the members in both houses stood in silence for a while before the proceedings were adjourned on till tomorrow.

Deshmukh, who had started his legislative career in the state assembly in 1980 had served as a chief minister and member of Rajya Sabha.  Deskhmukh had initiated a number of programmes for the improvement of urban infrastructure in Mumbai, attracting a large number of global investors. He also held portfolios in Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Union Government.

Through his demise, an able administrator and a distinguished parliamentarian has been lost for the country, Chairman Hamid Ansari mourned.
