Government promotes Organic Farming through various schemes

The Government is promoting Organic Farming through various schemes for increasing the percentage of such land and a total of 0.76% land of 141 million hectare of cultivable land has been brought under organic farming, as per the written information provided by Harish Rawat, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries. The National Project on Organic Farming (NPOF), National Horticulture Mission (NHM), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and Macro Management of Agriculture (MMA) are the ones undertaken by the government for promoting organic farming.

Under NHM subject to a maximum of Rs 30,000 per beneficiary the government provides financial assistance for setting up of vermi-compost units at 50% of the cost. Besides, funds are also provided at 50% of the cost subject to maximum of Rs 10,000 per hectare for a maximum area of 4 hectare per beneficiary or adoption of organic farming. The government also provides similar rule of support for assistance given under RKVY. 

Moreover, for setting up /strengthening of existing Bio-fertilizer and / or Bio-pesticide Production Units, financial assistance are provided under NPOF as back ended subsidy through NABARD. Apart from this assistance up to 25% of total financial outlay or Rs 40.00 lakh; and for setting up of Fruit and Vegetables Wastes/Agro-Wastes Compost Production Units at 33% of total financial outlay or Rs 60.00 lakh, whichever is less is also provided under NPOF.
