FMC bans various agri-commodities contracts for 2013 lean season

The Forward Markets Commission (FMC), the commodities market regulator, has banned several agri-commodities contracts for 2013. The list includes Castor seed, Chana, Soyabean, Rapessed, Potato, Kapas, Pepper, Soyameal and Jeera futures as there will be insufficient supplies to make any meaningful price discovery in the lean season.

The decision has also been taken to control excessive volatility in prices of these commodities during the lean months.
