Govt introduces diesel, seed subsidy scheme to farmers

With deficient rainfall in the current year and drought like situation across the country, government of India has introduced the ‘Diesel Subsidy Scheme’ along with enhancing seed subsidy, as per the written information provided by Harish Rawat, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries.

The above ‘Diesel Subsidy Scheme’ is introduced with a view to provide irrigation through diesel pump-sets. This initiative by the government will help to save the standing crops and to mitigate the hardships of farmers, especially that of small and marginal farmers in the country.

Also with a view to provide relief to farmers, the government has enhanced seed subsidy. In respect of cereals the ceiling on seeds subsidy has also been enhanced from Rs 500 per quintal to Rs 700 per quintal. While for pulses and oilseeds, the subsidy has been enhanced from Rs 1,200 per quintal to Rs 2,000 per quintal. Separately, in respect of coarse cereals the subsidy has been increased from Rs 800 per quintal to Rs 1,000 per quintal.
