The government has released Rs 52,275.55 crore under the Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, 2008 providing benefits to around 3.45 crore farmers, as per the written information provided by Namo Narain Meena, Minister of State for Finance. The government has released the amount through Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
Besides, Rs 18,305.55 crore have been released by the government in respect of State Cooperative Banks providing benefit to 1.297 crore farmers.
With the help of public sector banks, private sector banks, cooperative banks, local area banks and regional rural banks, the Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, 2008 was implemented. The debt waiver portion of the scheme closed on June 30, 2008 while the debt relief portion of the scheme closed on June 30, 2010.
