Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday on account of some selling in American currency by banks and exporters. Further, positive opening in domestic equities and foreign fund inflows also supported the domestic currency. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in the capital markets, putting in Rs 216.20 crore Monday, as per the provisional data. On the global front, the dollar was largely steady against other major currencies on Tuesday, but investor appetite for risk was kept in check after US President Donald Trump renewed his tariff threats towards China.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 69.43, stronger by 22 paise from its previous close of 69.65 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 69.6500 and 69.4200 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 69.30 and for Euro stood at 78.06 on June 7, 2019. While the reference rate for the Yen stood at 63.92, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 88.02.
