The Union government of India has increased import limit on tur dal to 4 lakh tonnes (LT) on private traders till October. It also instructed National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) to sell 2 LT of the dal in the open market on no-profit no-loss basis.
The move is to tame the possible sharp prices hikes in the pulses and to control food inflation in the country. Also affirmed that the government has enough buffer stock of pulses including tur dal.
