The Madhya Pradesh state will export about 198.368 metric tonnes of wheat procured during Rabi season 2012-13 to Iran. Under first phase, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has selected wheat stored in eight districts of state from where it would be exported. The districts are Hoshangabad, Sehore, Vidisha, Harda, Gwalior, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Ujjain which have been selected by FCI.
Besides to ensure proper upkeep of wheat meant for export, concerned officers of the districts have been directed by the state government to co-ordinate with FCI and warehousing agencies.
In 2011-12 crop year (July-June) period, India produced a record 90.23 million tonnes of wheat which led to an all-time high procurement of about 38 million tonnes this year. Also against the storage capacity of 64 million tonnes the government is facing storage crisis because the godowns have been flooded with record 80 million tonnes of foodgrains.
