Crude steel production of India rises by 5% in May: worldsteel

World Steel Association (worldsteel) in its latest report stated that India's crude steel production peaked by 5.1% to 9.196 million tonnes (MT) in the month of May 2019, comparing to last year same month's 8.753 MT. As per its report, global crude steel output for 64 countries was 162.744 MT in May 2019, up by 5.4%, compared to 154.460 MT in May 2018.

The US produced 7.653 MT of crude steel in May 2019, up by 5.4% as compared to 7.263 MT in May 2018. Crude steel production of China was 89.091 MT as against 81.018 MT, rose by 10% for May 2019. Japan has reported a dip of 4.6% in its output at 8.676 MT as compared to 9.096 MT in May 2018. In EU, Italy produced 2.215 MT of crude steel in May 2019, France produced 1.2 MT, Spain 1.276 MT. While South Korea's crude steel production stood at 6.371 MT, Brazil and Turkey produced 2.751 MT and 3.063 MT of metal, respectively, during May 2019.

About 64 countries are reporting on Crude steel production to World Steel Association. Members of world steel represent approximately 85% of the world's steel production, including over 160 steel producers with 9 of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes.
