Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Wednesday

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday, followed by firmness in domestic equities and weakening of the American currency at overseas markets. Rupee improved further on easing crude oil prices and some selling in American currency by banks and exporters. On the global front, after the G20 meeting most Asian currencies including the Yuan are trading on a positive note. Donald Trump and Xi Jinping’s meeting over the weekend, at which the leaders of the two largest economies agreed to resume negotiations.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 68.85, stronger by 10 paise from its previous close of 68.95 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 68.8900 and 68.7950 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 68.96 and for Euro stood at 78.12 on July 01, 2019. While the reference rate for the Yen stood at 63.64, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 87.46.
