Steel shipments by India dip by 34% in 2018-19

Union Minister for Steel Dharmendra Pradhan has said India’s total steel shipments dipped by 34% to 6.36 million tonne (MT) in 2018-19 comparing to last year's 9.62 MT. Besides, anti-dumping and countervailing duties has been levied by the government in order to protect the domestic industry from unfair external competition.

The Minister said the government has notified 53 Steel and Steel Product (Quality Control) Orders which is applicable for both domestic production as well as imports. He affirmed that the Steel Quality Control Order is implemented in the public interest for protection of human, animal and plant, safety of environment, prevention of unfair trade practices and national security.
