Indian coffee shipments almost unchanged at 2.38 lakh tonnes in January-July 2019

India, Asia's third-largest producer and exporter of coffee, has exported 2,38,669 tonnes of coffee during January to July 2019, almost same as compared to last year same period's 2,37,780 tonne. The major coffee shipment of India was to Italy amounting more than 55,000 tonnes, followed by over 25,000 tonnes to Germany and about 16,000 tonnes to Russian Federation.

The country’s coffee output is pegged 3.19 lakh tonnes for the 2018-19 marketing year (October-November), as against 3.16 lakh tonnes in the previous marketing year.

The major portion of the coffee bean export was that of Robusta variety which peaked to 1,35,892 tonnes till July 2019, compared to last year same period's 1,26,254 tonnes. However, Arabica coffee shipments declined to 37,609 tonnes from last year same period's 40,795 tonne and instant coffee exports showed a decrease at 12,504 tonnes during January-July of this calendar year from 16,303 tonnes in the same period in 2018. Re-export of coffee was also marginally lower at 52,513 tonnes from 54,222 tonnes in the period under review.
