India, the world's second-biggest tea producer, has reported a rise of 8.3% to 176.07 million kg during July 2019, compared to last year same period. The rise was mainly due to the peaked production from the top producing northeastern state of Assam.
Assam's yield contributed 97.02 million kg of tea in July, up compared to last year's 93.71 million kg. The country exports CTC (crush-tear-curl) grade tea mainly to Egypt, Pakistan and the United Kingdom, with the orthodox variety shipped to Iraq, Iran and Russia.
Overall, the country's tea production in the first seven months of 2019 increased by 5.9% compared to 649.75 million from a year earlier.
