Asian shares ended mostly lower on Monday amid concerns over escalating Sino-US trade war and its impact on global economic growth. A new round of tariffs by the world's two largest economies took effect over the weekend. US tariffs on about $112 billion worth of Chinese imports went into effect on Sunday, while China started to impose retaliatory tariffs on some of the $75 billion worth of US goods it has targeted. Japanese shares ended lower, while the safe-haven yen strengthened after the US and China put additional tariffs on each other's exports over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Malaysian market was closed on Awal Muharram.
