Bills pending, no work done: monsoon session ends today

07 Sep 2012 Evaluate
After 13 days of no work, the month-long Monsoon session of Parliament ends on Friday, being the least productive sessions of all time. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni called the session a bigger scam, as each minute of Parliament costs the government Rs 30,000 and no work has been carried out.

At the time when the session began on August 8, 30 bills were on government's agenda including crucial finance bills such as The Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill and the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill. Of this only four bills were passed due to the logjam, including the Protection of Women Against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill and the AIIMS Amendment Bill and of 15 bills listed for introduction, just five were introduced. Rest of the bills was still on pending.

Unfortunately, 15th Lok Sabha will go down the history with the most number of disruptions since 1952, along with the failure of Sushil Kumar Shinde  in taking up the role of his predecessor.
