Markets add gain in special session of trade

The Indian markets extended their gains on Saturday’s special trading session, though as per expectation the volume remained low but after making a modestly positive start the major indices never looked giving up and in their one and half an hour of trade kept moving northward only. There were domestic funds buying that helped the markets move higher in short trading session and both the benchmarks added gains of over a quarter percent.  Sectorally, barring power all the indices closed in green on BSE but healthcare and metal extended their jubilation in a big way adding gains of around a percent, closely followed by consumer durables, oil & gas and auto.

BSE Sensex opened at 17701.07 and touched a high and low of 17773.15 and 17694.83 respectively before finally snapping the session at 17749.65, up by 65.92 points or 0.37%. There were 23 advances against 7 declines on the index.

The broader markets slightly outperformed the benchmarks; the BSE Mid Cap index was up by 0.51%, while the BSE Small Cap index gained 0.63%. The market breadth on the BSE remained in positive side 1559 stocks advancing against 692 declines while 101 stocks remained unchanged.

The top gainers of the Sensex were, Cipla up by 2.65%, Dr. Reddy’s up by 2.20%, Sterlite Inds up by 1.92%, Hindalco up by 1.62%, Jindal Steel up by 1.35%.

On the other hand BHEL down by 1.15%, NTPC was down by 0.55%, Bharti Airtel down 0.39%, Coal India down by 0.22% and  TCS was down by 0.20%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were, Healthcare (HC) up by 1.22%, Metal up by 0.97%, Consumer Durables (CD) up by 0.76%, Auto up by 0.50%, Oil & Gas up by 0.44%. While Power was the lone losing sector, down by 0.21%.

The S&P CNX Nifty opened at 5,343.65 and after touching a high and low of 5,366.30 and 5,343.45 respectively, finally closed at 5,365.35, up by 23.25 points or 0.44%. There were37 stocks in advancing side while 13 stocks declined.

Nifty’s top gainers were, Cipla up by 3.12%, Sterlite Inds up by 2.28%, Sesa Goa up by 2.21%, Hindalco up by 1.95% and Dr Reddy’s down by 1.95%.
On the other hand top losers included, BHEL down by 1.05%, JP Associates down by 0.74%, GAIL down by 0.63%, HCL Technology down by 0.56% and Bharti Airtel down by 0.55%.
