The government is considering a proposal to sell Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) to foreign and private firms but the privatization plan will need a prior nod of Parliament. The government is mulling to sell most of its 53.3 percent stake in BPCL to a strategic partner.

BPCL is into exploration, production and retailing of petroleum and petrol related products. The retail business unit of BPCL is into marketing of petrol, diesel and kerosene.
