Bond yields trade lower on Thursday

03 Oct 2019 Evaluate

Bond yields edged lower on Thursday, tracking a slump in US Treasury yields and crude oil prices.

In the global market, Two-year US Treasury yields fell near two-year lows on Wednesday after a weak private sector jobs report depressed investor confidence in the economy and boosted expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in October. Furthermore, Oil futures rebounded, reversing losses earlier in the day, as fears over the worsening global economic outlook that hit prices hard in the previous session gave way to modest hopes for progress in resolving the US-China trade war.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 5 basis points lower at 6.61% from its previous close of 6.66% on Tuesday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 4 basis point lower at 6.36% from its previous close of 6.40% on Tuesday.
