Leading global telecommunications company, Bharti Airtel has entered the navigation services market by introducing turn-by-turn voice navigation and live traffic updates for its customers with its new ‘SmartDrive’ map application. While there is no charge to view the map but customer has to pay Rs 99 per month for navigation and Rs 49 per month for live traffic data. However, data browsing is free till November 30.
The SmartDrive app can also suggest alternative routes in case of heavy traffic, and search for nearby restaurants, theatres and shopping malls. At present, SmartDrive app covers Delhi and NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore and by December, the service will be extended to Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune.
The company has reported a fall of 2.63% in its net profit at Rs 1470.00 crore for first quarter ended June 30, 2012 as compared to Rs 1432.30 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. However, the total income from operation of the company has increased by 7.86% at Rs 10980.60 crore for Q1FY13 as compared Rs 10180.50 crore for the corresponding quarter previous year.
