RIL plans ultra low-cost telecom towers : Reports

Mukesh Ambani owned, Reliance Industries, is working on ultra-low cost base stations, which are used to transmit signals for telecom services, costing just Rs one lakh each, as mentioned in few media reports. These low-cost towers are in sync with country’s largest private sector enterprise’s strategy for foraying into telecom space, which would be through Infotel Broadband.

Further, at this price, the costs of the proposed towers are expected to as low as 1/40th of the base stations deployed by some leading mobile phone service providers. As some leading telecom companies are using telecom towers costing as high as Rs 30-40 lakh, while some of the low-cost towers cost Rs 15-20 lakh.

Moreover, Infotel is also focusing on building low-cost model so that it can keep the rates of 4G telecom services, cheaper than that of other players. 4G services are expected to be launched as early as 2012-end.

The Reliance Group, founded by Dhirubhai H Ambani, is India's largest private sector enterprise, with businesses in the energy and materials value chain. Group's annual revenues are in excess of $30 billion. The flagship company, Reliance Industries, is a Fortune Global 500 company and is the largest private sector company in India.
