In an attempt to keep the Hindutva image intact and to make more acceptable at the national level, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has kept his 2012 poll campaign, centering spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda. As part of the campaign, a month long political yatra, Swami Vivekananda Yuva Vikas Yatra, has been conducted by Modi, and also been addressing Vivekananda Youth Convention all over the state.
However, criticism has been raised by his opponents, for misusing the name of Swami Vivekananda in the campaign, who has always kept away from the politics. During the yatra, as a tribute to Swami Vivekananda, a statue of Swami Vivekananda was kept before rath on a vehicle and has enunciated his dreams, to make India 'vishwa guru'.
One year back, Modi had launched Sadbhavna Mission, after the Supreme Court appointed SIT in the 2002 riot cases , which had helped him to reach out to minority community of the state, and made him more acceptable at national level.
