Asian markets trade lower in early deals on Thursday

Asian equity benchmarks are trading lower on Thursday, as investors remained sidelines after reports that the US House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump, making him the third US president to be impeached. Trump will now face a Senate trial next month. However, removing the president from office requires a two-thirds majority in the Senate, where the Republicans enjoy control. Japan's Nikkei has tumbled as investors remained cautious ahead of the Bank of Japan's monetary policy decision due today. Among the Asian markets, Hong Kong, South Korea, Shanghai, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia are in negative trend.

Nikkei 225 down 65.66 points 0.27% to 23,868.77, Straits Times diminished 7.79 points or 0.24% to 3,201.75, Hang Seng shrunk 181.51 points or 0.65% to 27,702.70, Taiwan Weighted decreased 99.93 points or 0.82% to 12,022.52, KOSPI Index narrowed 3.76 points or 0.17% to 2,191.00, Jakarta Composite contracted by 27.01 points or 0.43% to 6,260.24, and Shanghai down 6.18 points or 0.20% to 3,010.86 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI narrowed by 1.41 points or 0.09% to 1,597.70.
