IT sector to be positive hirer in current financial year: NASSCOM President

Underlining 60,000 direct jobs created by technology startups this year, industry body the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) President, Debjani Ghosh has said that the IT services and IT industry will be a positive hirer in the current financial year.

Further, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad noted that as per NASSCOM, the top IT companies have continued hiring momentum and top 15 companies have employed 1,00,000 people, in net job creation. He also added that overall, the IT sector employs 4.1 million people directly and 10.25 million indirectly.

Meanwhile, with an aim to drive skilling at scale for Indian youth and citizens, the Ministry of Electronics and IT along with NASSCOM, have approved the expansion of the Future Skills initiative to industry professionals across different segments, higher education students, and government officials.

The expanded digital platform will be known as the Future Skills PRIME (Programme for Reskilling/Upskilling of IT Manpower for Employability), where the government aims to skill around four lakh professionals and invest Rs 436 crore over the next three years.
