Rough diamonds imports of India decline 17% in April-November 2019

The Gem and Jewellary Exports Promotion Council (GJEPC) in its report has showed that the India’s overall gross imports of rough diamonds declined by 17.24% to $8,553.96 million in April 2019-November 2019 period, as compared to $10,336.19 million in the corresponding period of last year. The fall in imports was mainly on account of liquidity crunch in the market.

Besides, exports of rough diamonds decreased marginally by 1.97% to $807.97 million in April 2019-November 2019 period over $824.21 million in the same period of last year.

On the other hand, imports of cut and polished diamond fell by 1.54% to $911.68 million in April 2019-November 2019 period, as compared to $925.90 million in the same period last year, while in the reporting period exports dropped by 18.96% to $13,412.50 million over $16,549.47 million in the same period of last year.
