As per the preliminary data from the Ministry of Agriculture, sowing of rice along with different crops has picked up pace. Rice has been sown in 363.76 lakh hectare so far as against 361.64 lakh hectare a week back. It is also higher compared to the normal area that is been sown for this time of the year, which stands at around 358.74 lakh hectare.
Besides, sugarcane has been planted in 52.88 lakh hectare, which remained stagnant compared to last week figure but more than the normal area covered for this time of the year, which stands at around 47.20 lakh hectare while cotton has been planted in 114.94 lakh hectare as compared to 114.44 lakh hectare in last week.
Similarly, coarse cereals and oilseeds have been planted in 175.93 lakh hectare and 174.39 lakh hectare respectively, while jute and mesta has been planted in 8.78 lakh hectare which is lower compared to the normal area that is been sown for this time of the year, which stands at around 9.00 lakh hectare. Separately, pulses have been sown in 99.81 lakh hectare.
