The Indian Statistical Institute will carry out a baseline survey of SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant. An agreement to this effect was signed by B.K. Roy, Director, Indian Statistical Institute, and Pradip Sahay, Executive Director (P&A) of IISCO Steel Plant, on Tuesday.
IISCO Steel Plant has been spending considerably on improving the socio-economic conditions of communities in its periphery at Burnpur. However, with this agreement, IISCO Steel Plant will be able to benefit by Indian Statistical Institute’s expertise in data collection to identify specific areas of improvement.
Off lately, the company has been planning to spend Rs 35,000 crore of capex for setting up of steel plant, power plant and urea plant at Sindri, Dhanbad in Jharkhand state. Out of Rs 35,000 crore the company will spend a total of Rs 25,000 crore on a new 5.6 million tonne steel plant while Rs 5,000 crore will be spent each on a 1000 MW power plant and 1.1 tonne urea plant. Upon commencement of these plants over 20,000 people will be directly and indirectly employed.
