Amid the Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) support to the government's new economic reform decisions,  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has made it clear that effective implementation of flagship programs of UPA targeted at the poor is not possible until the nation’s economy gets sound enough. PM assured the party that steps for the poor and the disadvantaged will continue in league, with the Congress policies for development and welfare of the 'Aam Admi' (common man).

The CWC polled its support for reforms in the meeting after Trinamool Congress walked out of UPA and emphasized that it was very much necessary to curtail the burden in the fiscal deficit of the country and also urged to pitch for more reforms.

The Finance Minister, Chidambaram also clarified that the centre’s measures are to protect the country from ailing global economic health. The party also ensured that the government is stable though its key alley took out support, pointing that two allies - SP and BSP have reiterated their outside support. CWC also criticized BJP for playing ‘negative' politics instead of acting creatively.
