Asian markets trade bearish in early deals on Monday

Asian equity benchmarks are trading bearish in early deals on Monday, with intensified worries followed by the spike in number of new coronavirus cases reported outside China. South Korea raised its coronavirus alert to the highest level after the number of new coronavirus cases in the country nearly tripled over the weekend to more than 600, while the death toll reached six. Italy and Iran have also confirmed an uptick in coronavirus infections. Japan's Nikkei is closed for the Emperor's Birthday holiday. Among the Asian markets, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Shanghai and South Korea are trading lower.

Straits Times dipped 30.18 points or 0.95% to 3,150.85, Hang Seng slipped 404.42 points or 1.48% to 26,904.39, Taiwan Weighted dropped 151.68 points or 1.30% to 11,534.67, KOSPI Index trimmed 67.61 points or 3.13% to 2,095.23, Jakarta Composite narrowed by 70.09 points or 1.19% to 5,812.17 and Shanghai decreased 10.45 points 0.34% to 3,029.22.
