Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Chaudhary has expressed confidence that the government’s target of doubling of farmers' income by the year 2022 will definitely be achieved. He also said that a number of schemes have been launched by the government towards fulfilling this goal. He added ‘what was earlier being given to farmers in five years, our government has earmarked more than that in a single year’s budget.’
Chaudhary said budget allocation for the sector has also been increased substantially for the next fiscal (FY21). He noted that before 2014, the budget for agriculture ranged between Rs 25,000-30,000 crore, but the budget for agriculture in the next financial year (FY21) has crossed Rs 1,50,000 crore.
It may be noted that a high-level committee has recommended series of measures for boosting the farmers’ income. As per the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) report, the average monthly income of farmers' income stood at Rs 8,167 during 2016-17, while at Rs 6,426 in 2013-14.
