CAI retains cotton crop estimate at 354.50 lakh bales for 2019-20

The Cotton Association of India (CAI) in its latest report has retained cotton crop estimate at 354.50 lakh bales of 170 kg each for 2019-20 which is at the same level as in the previous estimate. The association has released its February estimate of the cotton crop for the season 2019-20 beginning from October 01, 2019.

It has estimated total cotton supply at 298.43 lakh bales of 170 kg each during the months of October 2019 to February 2020, which consists of the arrivals of 254.43 lakh bales upto February 29, 2020, imports of 12 lakh bales up to February 29, 2020 and the opening stock estimated by the CAI at 32.00 lakh bales at the beginning of the season.

The CAI has further estimated cotton consumption at 133 lakh bales of 170 kg each during the months of October 2019 to February 2020, while the export shipment of cotton estimated at 27.50 lakh bales of 170 kg each up to February 29, 2020.

Stock at the end of February 2020 is estimated at 137.93 lakh bales including 40 lakh bales with textile mills and remaining 97.93 lakh bales with CCI and others (MNCs, Traders, Ginners, etc.). Moreover, the association has estimates the domestic consumption at 331 lakh bales for the entire crop year upto September 30, 2020.
