Asian markets trade lower in early deals on Monday

The Asian equity benchmarks are trading lower in early deals on Monday amid the overnight losses on Wall Street Friday on the back of escalating worries over the rising number of coronavirus infections around the world and its impact on the global economy. Japan's Nikkei is trading lower amid growing fears regarding the spread of coronavirus pandemic. Among the Asian markets, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Malaysia are trading in red.

Nikkei 225 down 591.09 points or 3.05% to 18,798.34, Straits Times shortened 87.28 points or 3.45% to 2,441.48, Hang Seng declined 91.24 points or 0.39% to 23,393.04, Jakarta Composite decreased to 187.14 points or 4.12% to 4,358.43, Shanghai down by 39.03 points or 1.12% to 2,741.08, Taiwan Weighted decreased 90.84 points or 0.94% to 9,608.08, KOSPI Index shortened by 1.94 points or 0.11% to 1,715.79 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI down by 24.59 points or 1.83% to 1,318.50.
