Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday as weak American currency overseas boosted investor sentiment. Meanwhile, investors are awaiting the country’s gross domestic product data for the last (January-March) quarter of 2019-20, due later in the day, for further cues. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equity shares worth Rs 2,354.14 crore on Thursday, exchange data showed. However, weak domestic equities and escalating tension between Washington and Beijing restricted rupee’s gains.
